What began as a project to help a family in need turned into a sizeable grassroots movement known as ERCO (Ever Reaching Community Outreach). In August 2012, members of Rehobeth Baptist Church set a work day to paint and renovate the family's home, and invited area churches to join in the project. While working on the project, another family in need was found and then another. It was at this time God placed it on our hearts to join together, get off our pews, and start living out who we say we are as Christians by reaching out to the poor and needy around us. Our mission statement is below:
ERCO is a group of Christian believers of different denominations whose mission is to be "doers of the word and not hearers only" (James 1:22), and to "love because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). We are committed to reach out to the poor and needy around us, as we are called in Isaiah 58:7 to "share your food with the hungry ... give clothes to those who need them." We will put our faith in action by working together to meet the physical needs of the less fortunate by distributing donations received of food, clothing, furniture, appliances, and other supportive items at no cost to them; and meet their spiritual needs through prayer, distribution of Bibles, personal and group evangelism, and by actively showing unconditional love. Because of our love for Jesus Christ, we will strive to love every family we come in contact with as He loves us; and to share the healing and inspired word of the Lord. Jesus said in John 20:21, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” We believe we are called to reach out and "carry one another's burdens (Galatians 6:2) and, by serving those in need, we pray our actions will affect the lives of those we serve and point them to Jesus Christ.
ERCO is a non-profit, 501C3 charitable organization. We are a faith ministry, committing whatever we do to the Lord (Proverbs 16:3). We are only able to go and serve the hurting and oppressed in our surrounding communities by the grace of God, the physical support of volunteers, and through donations given to this ministry.
Because Christ gave Himself for us, we as Christians are called to give of ourselves to Him. We will be ever reaching, ever seeking opportunities to show Christ's love by serving others and providing them a message of hope and faith in Jesus Christ.
